Exclusive areas for product differentiation and elements of upselling

Hoteliers are now adding premium products and services to their portfolio as a differentiation strategy that focuses on specialized services and separation from the masses in regards to check-in and accommodation. Within Spain, multiple hotels have implemented this strategy and Meliá Hotels International has even become a benchmark within this area.

Among the many choices that hotel companies incorporate in their portfolio of products and services of upselling, there are more and more hotels that are adding a line of exclusive or premium products and services.

This is in an attempt to offer the client a more personalized service and separated from the masses and lines waiting at the same hotels; starting with an individualized check-in that is tailored to their needs, and including accomodation in one of the best rooms in the hotel. On several occasions there are also superior products including access to a reserved area of the building; prestigious lounges; or the exclusive gold or club floors

Becoming a benchmark of leading international hotel chains, Meliá Hotels International, is identified for its prestigious Red Level, as one of the “best in class” in matters of exclusive services companies. In this case, associated with the the Gran Meliá brand, the Red Level offers a unique plan: superior rooms with the best views of the resort or hotel, premium services including butlers (Red Glove Service), access to the open bar serving free snacks and an entire pool area and solarium reserved just for these members.

Other hotel companies of note are Iberostar Hotels & Resorts and Fuerte Hotels. The first has a new concept of exclusive services in its hotels. The Iberostar Suites Jardin de Sol (Mallorca) and the Iberostar Bouganville Playa (Tenerife) offer personalized customer service, Prestige Star rooms, free late check-out, exclusive areas and daily newspapers.

Fuerte Hotels in turn, created the business line “Fuerte Hotels Exclusive” which includes a VIP check-in until 6 pm, access to exclusive lounges, accommodations in its best rooms with sea views, as well as more general benefits like Wi-Fi, luxury amenities, in-room coffee stations, a pillow menu and premium mattresses to ensure a perfect night of rest for each guest.
