Technology trends applied to hotels

Adapting to new technologies not only improves the service of hotels, it also helps the hotel stand out from the competitors which improves customer loyalty. The latest technological trends to be followed are smartphone trends, importance of social media, rooms without keys, smart rooms and personalized upselling and cross-selling.

Adapting to new technological developments is crucial to offer a better service and customer service. Relying on technology in a hotel is important in many aspects, amongst others, to improve processes, to stand out from your competition and to increase customer loyalty. Technology makes guests feel like home, being able to take control and feeling connected in an establishment where they feel like they are part of a unique experience.

Some of these latest technological trends are:

  1. Smartphone trends. More and more hotel chains are developing apps that allow users to make reservations, pay or check in and out online, communicate with the reception or other departments of the hotel, etc, all through the mobile app.

  2. Importance of social media. Any excuse is good enough to share information on social media. Many hotels are starting to count on eye-catching elements so that guests take pictures and share them on their social network.

  3. Rooms without keys. We can find some hotels that have already started to rely on smart watches, bracelets, fingerprints and even a retinal scanner as a key to enter the room,  in order to make the clients stay more comfortable not having to worry about losing the key. This method is also being used to pay any service in the hotel.

  4. Smart rooms. It’s now possible in certain hotels to have total control over your room on your smartphone. Without having to get out of bed, the guest can control the illumination, television, heating, curtains, etc…

  5. Personalized upselling and cross-selling. Some hotels have already started to use the new possibilities that wi-fi connection has to offer: to launch personalized offers and promotions to the guests smartphones in order to increase the hotel’s extra income.

The future is already here, and an increasing number of hoteliers are becoming aware of the importance of investing in technology to improve guests experience, as well as improving management and processes of the hotel.
