By Adela Herrero Buendía

the hotel factory continues growing, not only in new and interesting projects, but also in regards to its team. We have recently had several additions to our offices in Palma and Madrid, so, as usual in the hotel factory, we have asked them to tell us a little more about themselves.

So today we introduce you to Patricia Rodríguez; one of our new junior consultants and who has recently joined to the office in Madrid.

THF: Tell us a little bit more about yourself. Where are you from? What did you study?

I’m Patricia Rodríguez, I’m from Mallorca but I’ve been living in Madrid for the past 5 years. I moved here to study a double degree in Business Administrations and International Relations at Universidad Francisco de Vitoria, and I decided to stay in Madrid after graduating because I love living in this city.

I’m a very active person and I’m always looking forward to doing new things; the best experiences of my life have come when I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone and I have done things that, at first, frightened me a little bit.

THF: How did you come to know about the hotel factory? What caught your attention?

I heard about the hotel factory through people I know before graduating. Once I finished my degree and started searching for job I decided to investigate more about the work this company does.

In my case, I’ve always been interested in consultancy because of its dynamism and how much and how fast junior consultants learn about all kind of things. I considered that the combination of consulting and tourism in the hotel factory would allow me to explore something I’ve been interested and, at the same time, keeping in touch with the international sphere, as I did in my university.

THF: What is the first word that comes to mind when we talk about the company?

It comes to my mind all the different companies I’ve had the opportunity to work for through the years and how different they are although they all belong to the hospitality sector.

I think people usually think of money or work when they talk about companies in general, but, for me, after studying Business Administration and being in touch with different areas of expertise in multiple companies, all I can think about are questions: ¿what kind of company?, ¿is it big or small?, ¿how does it operate?, ¿could its internal processes be optimized?, ¿what’s it’s competitive advantage?…

THF: What do you like the most about this job?

What I like the most about this job is the fact that, little by little, I’m learning all I need to have an integral vision of how this industry and the companies work.

On one side, I’m experiencing how different actors are related, direct or indirectly, with tourism intercat and how the decisions of some affect the results of others. This allows me to develop my capability to analyze this industry forma general perspective.

On the other side, I’m also learning the internal details of how hotel management works, which is a much more specialized area of expertise.

All this seems a bit much for someone who’s only been working at the hotel factory for two months, but I haven’t mentioned my colleagues yet. There’s a very good work environment at the office and my colleagues have helped me with everything I’ve needed; this has made the adaptation process easier.

THF: And now let’s move on to some more personal questions: Your greatest weakness, what can’t you resist?

My greatest weakness, but also strength at the same time, is my home, Palma, and my family. Although I love Madrid and the independence I have here, I cannot spend too much time without going to Palma. I don’t consider myself a very stay-home person, but, if it’s with my parents and siblings, staying home watching a movie or just talking is always a good plan.

THF: What do you like to do during your free time?

I’ve always been a very sporty person, I love the pool. I started playing water polo 10 years ago and now I train with a female master’s team.

Apart from sports, I also like going to the cinema, walking around Madrid and trying new things, even if its a new restaurant I’ve never been to or traveling to new places.

THF: What was your last trip? And your next destination?

My last trip was to China with my university. I’ve had the privilege to travel all around the world with my university (as I studied International Relations) and our last trip was to Beijing. The word that sums up that trip is “different”; I love traveling not only for the tourist attractions, but also because I like to dig into the cultural characteristics of each country and discovering how these influence the way people live in different places. China is such a different place where I was constantly learning new things.

Latin America has been on my bucket list for years now. It’s an area that has always drawn my attention because of how rich it’s countries’ cultures are and their linkage to Spain, but I’ve never had the chance to go. To be more specific, I would love to go to Mexico o Peru.

THF: Any secret you would like to share with us?

People are usually surprised when I tell them that, but though I’m from Mallorca, I don’t like going to the beach.

THF: And to conclude, a question about the sector that attracts us so much. If you could build a custom made hotel for you, how would it be?

My ideal hotel would be placed in Palma de Mallorca and would have all the good things I’ve discovered in Madrid and Palma doesn’t have. The F&B supply would be inspired by all my favorite restaurant in Madrid and the hotel would offer activities I have enjoyed in Madrid and haven’t been able to find in Palma.

Although, the one thing you cannot have in Madrid and my hotel would definitely have is a premium rooftop with sea view.
