Boom of boutique hotels in Palma

16, Sep, 2016

Palma is experiencing big changes concerning its hotel supply and demand, proof of these changes is the growth in the number of Boutique hotels. A small hotel that merges features of urban hotels and differentiating and innovating elements  that transforms the hotel’s areas into unique and singular spaces.

This hotel trend initiated at the beginning of the 80’s with the opening of The Blakes Hotel, in South Kensington, London and  The Bedford in Union Square, San Francisco. But it wasn’t until a few years ago that hoteliers in Palma decided to go for this typology of hotel to stand out from their competition.

From the Boutique hotels in Palma we can differentiate between the following sub-types:

Although it’s hard to define what a boutique hotel is, it is possible to define a few of its common characteristics that make it a unique kind of hotel:

    • Location: you can find this type of hotel in the most neuralgic centers, historic, urban and trendy cities. They are not necessarily centric, but always close to the most famous restaurants, shops and art galleries of the city.

    • Size: there is a lack of any regulation that dictates the maximum number of rooms that a Boutique hotel must have, but they usually have around 15 to 40 rooms in which a personalized service can be offered to all guests.

      • Differentiating element: most of these hotels follow a theme that allows them to be distinct from traditional hotels. An example of this is the Brondo Architect Hotel, a 4* Boutique Hotel of architectural character in which each room is named after a known architect, and designed accordingly to this artist.

      • Exclusive service: the reduced number of rooms allows employees to give an exclusive service to each one of their clients. This service is focused mainly to a new target market, mostly known as Millennials, for this reason they offer the latest trends in fashion, architecture, technology, cosmetics, gastronomy, etc.

Since this boom in boutique hotels initiated in 2012, 19 new boutique hotels have already opened their doors in Palma, among them we can find the Bo Hotel which opened this september and the  NAKAR Hotel, project in which the hotel factory was proud to collaborate.

Additionally,  the opening of 10 more boutique hotels has been confirmed, the Bosch Hotel, situated on top of the emblematic Bar Bosch, is expected to open by the end of the year, two other hotels are expected to open in 2017, the Súmmum The Prime Boutique Hotel and the Cappuccino Hotel. Hotels with which it is expected to continue this boom of boutique hotels and the increase in the demand of these that has taken place during the last 4 years.
