We always have candidates who come to our company to do the internships of their degree studies or university master thanks to the various university agreements that we have signed with universities throughout the Spanish territory as well as internationally.<\/span><\/p>\n

Therefore, as we usually do, we have asked the people who are doing with us their internships to tell us something more about themselves, their studies and their experience with us.<\/p>\n

Today we would like to introduce you to Lauren Choi, a Business Administration student, specialized in Hospitality of Cornell University who are doing their internship in our office of Palma since February.<\/p>\n

THF: Tell us a little bit more about yourself. Where are you from? What are you studying?<\/b><\/p>\n

I am from the New York area, and am currently studying business administration <\/span><\/i>in Cornell<\/span><\/i> with a focus on hospitality.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\"Lauren\"THF: Why did you decide to study this?<\/b><\/p>\n

My studies are perfect for me because it fuses my two interests of business and hospitality. Ever since I can remember, I have loved hotels, traveling, tourism, and restaurants. And when it was time to choose a study in university, I knew that business and hospitality was what I wanted to study. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

THF: Why did you choose to continue your studies at the University of the Balearic Islands?<\/b><\/p>\n

I chose to study at UIB because it not only has a strong tourism program, but it is also located on this beautiful island of Mallorca. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

THF: Are you liking the experience?<\/b><\/p>\n

I love it here so much! I have met so many cool, interesting people, and I will be so sad to leave. I live with a Mallorcan family here, and almost feel like a Spanish person!<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

THF: You\u2019ve mentioned to use that you\u2019re from New York. Compared to the Big Apple, what do you like most about our city? Any story you want to tell us about your stay here?<\/b><\/p>\n

Compared to New York, i like how relaxed the people are here, and how small and intimate the city feels. Also, I love how cheap the coffee and food here are, because I eat a lot. Lastly, i love being by the ocean.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

THF: Any important difference between your country and ours?<\/b><\/p>\n

The main difference I see is the culture surrounding food. Here, people eat much later and for much longer. There is no rush to finish meals and receive the bill. Meals are a social event for friends and family to talk and catch up. In America, I normally eat around 7 pm, and at restaurants diners need quick service because they are in a rush to get out. I also noticed that more people are on their phones instead of talking to each other. I like the food culture here much more.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\"Lauren2\"THF: How did you come to know about the hotel factory? What caught your attention?<\/b><\/p>\n

I found out about THF through my American study abroad program called CIEE. The internship coordinator, Montse, also worked here as a consultant in the past! She told me about how she loved her time at the company and loved the team here.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

THF: What was your impression when you met us for the first time during the interview?<\/b><\/p>\n

I was a little bit intimidated by Bernat, Nuri and Toni when I first arrived, but I quickly realized that they were not actually scary and mean, but very friendly and welcoming. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

THF: Now that you have seen first hand the kind of work that we do here, is it what you expected of a hotel consultant?<\/b><\/p>\n

I did not have very many expectations about THF because this is the first time that I am first-hand experiencing what a job in consulting is really like. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

THF: What do you like the most about this job and what will you miss the most?<\/b><\/p>\n

I like that there is a wide variety of project types that I can work on with consulting here at THF. The projects are also fun because it requires creativity to come up with solutions. I will miss working with the other consultants who are older and more experienced. They were all so helpful whenever I had any questions.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\"Lauren3\"THF: What type of projects have you worked on during your months with us? Do find them interesting?<\/b><\/p>\n

As an intern, I am lucky to have helped on many different projects for at least a little bit. Some projects I was exposed to was one about a hotel\u2019s F&B repositioning, another about a prospective hotel opening that required me to help in a market analysis, and many more. They were quite interesting, and I definitely learned a lot.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

THF: How are your relations with your coworkers, will you miss them?<\/b><\/p>\n

I like that the consultants at THF are a young and energetic team. Even though sometimes it is difficult to understand them with the language barrier, I think they are all very fun and funny people to be around. I enjoy coffee breaks with them, and will miss learning from them.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

THF: <\/b>What you would say to all the students who want to work as an intern? What reasons would you give for them to choose the factory hotel?<\/b><\/p>\n

To do an internship at THF, it is important to learn quickly and to observe how other more experienced consultants do work. Also, always ask questions when you are not sure! I would tell students to choose THF because the projects are fun and important, and the people are friendly and welcoming. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n
